Block Blue Light Readers

Caddis - Eye Appliances D28

Dear Friends and Readers;

A while back I read Christy Brinkley’s book, Timeless Beauty where she devoted a couple of paragraphs to reading glasses that Block Blue Light. For those of you that don’t know what this is, it is special eye wear (usually readers/cheaters) that are designed to block blue light coming from your computer/iPad. These glasses have been shown to lessen harmful light being omitted from the screen which can in turn disrupt your sleep patterns , put strain on the eyes, and some say might even lead to eye disease.

Now since this product is on the newer side there is still a lot of conflicting evidence out there: We were getting plenty of blue light before modern digital life began. Most of it comes from the sun. But gadgets like televisions, smartphones, laptops, and tablets that populate modern life emit the brighter, shorter-wavelength (more bluish) light. - WebMD

The American Academy of Ophthalmology says you don’t need them and has gone on record as not recommending any kind of special eyewear for computer users. The organization says blue light from digital devices does not lead to eye disease and doesn’t even cause eyestrain. The problems people complain about are simply caused by overuse of digital devices, it says.- WebMD

However some eye professionals disagree: The Vision Council, which represents the optical industry, says “specialized glasses” are “one tactic” that might cut eyestrain. - WebMD

So it’s up to you to decide. Since I have had a lot of issues where sleep is concerned I decided to invest in some readers that block blue light, and to see if I saw a big difference where my sleep was concerned.

Now there are a wide range of options on the market from expensive: over a hundred dollars to inexpensive: $25.00 and under. Another thing to also keep in mind: due to covid a lot of us can’t go into a drug store and try on glasses to test what magnification level we need. Here is a simple trick: there are a number of websites online that can help you figure out your magnification level. Here is one I found: https://www.readers.com/blog/glasses/reading-glasses-power-finder/.

Here are my thoughts on the Blue Light Blocker Readers that I bought:

Caddis Miklos

Caddis Miklos

I started my journey with the Caddis Miklos……$95.00 in the color raw honey, after doing some reading online. Even though I loved the pictures online they just didn’t suit my face - bummer. Caddis is an American company based in Utah. From the company’s website:

OUR STORY: CADDIS is the anti anti-aging brand. That’s our stance. We want to have an open and frank conversation with you about how absolutely right on it is to be the age we are, right here and now. CADDIS is calling bullshit on 50 is the new 40, on the whole fountain of youth illusion, on the many industries that are profiting on vanity and fear of age, on the concept of “aging gracefully” and on the notion of raging against the dying of the light. - CADDIS website

I love the above blurb!! A great company, check them out!

Peepers Reading Glasses - To The Max

Peepers Reading Glasses - To The Max

My next foray into the world of Block Blue Light Readers was to Peepers Reading Glasses, To The Max…..$25.00. After reading numerous Amazon reviews, I decided to try them in clear. My husband really liked these on me, but again I had to return them because the magnification wasn’t right for my eyes….yes I was starting to feel a little like Goldylocks here! Nothing was quite right - yet!

A little about Peepers this is a family owned Indiana based company. There cost point isn’t super high if you want to try them out and see if they work for you. I would have kept mine, if the magnification had been right :(

Feisedy Reading Glasses

Feisedy Reading Glasses

Finally I decided to try FEISEDY Retro Square Blue Light Blocking Reading Glasses Anti Glare Digital Eyestrain Reader B2479…..$19.99 in leopard! After seeing that they had over 1236, four and half star ratings on Amazon - I thought I would check them out. These glasses were great! And finally I had the right magnification. This is a company that is out of China, thought I will say that the quality is pretty good and they are considered one of the top sellers on Amazon for eye glasses. Neither pair of these did my husband like as much on me as the Peepers clear, but I decided to stick with the Feisedy because I was tired of returning glasses right and left- yes I admit it - I was worn out!!

When the Covid has diminished, I think it will be a good idea to keep a pair in the car, to read menus and if you and your honey decide to spend the night somewhere you have a spare pair of reading glasses to read your iPad, without worrying about leaving your expensive glasses behind somewhere. And yes, I think personally my sleep has improved due in part to the glasses.

So those are my adventures in Blue Light Blocking Reading Glasses. If you have a pair that you love that were not mentioned above, please let us know in the comment section!

And Happy Thanksgiving!!
