Winona Ryder 90's It Girl — Dames that Dish

As we go into another July weekend, I decided to write about 90’s gal Winona (Forever) Ryder. To be totally honest I was never a huge fan of hers when I was younger - possibly because she seemed to have Keanu Reeves heart on screen and Jonny Depp’s heart off - sigh. O.k. call it jealousy - because she was just so beautiful. But recently I have begun to rediscover her, especially since I remember with fondness the movie ‘Reality Bites’ (the title seems to hit a little too close to home these days!!) and how much I loved the soundtrack! Ahhh the 90’s. And of course she was mesmerizing in one of my favorite books turned into screen: “Little Women”.

It was shocking for me to learn that Ms. Ryder is now 48 years old!! How time does fly…..I will say that I recently rediscovered her in “The Plot Against America” , and remembered what made her a star: that beautiful skin, those amazing eyes, and her ability to play someone who is haunted by the choices they make onscreen. A killer performance if you get a chance to view it!

So here is a little homage to Ms. Ryder. Love the red lipstick she sports with gusto both on and off screen. Love how she wears black vintage cocktail dresses, to most premiers (She is 5’4 and 104 lbs - vintage styles seem to work with her figure) or clothes by her friend Marc Jacobs. I love that after a bit of a dust up off screen at L.A.’s Saks Fifth Avenue, where she was convicted of shoplifting and received 3 years probation, she seems to have quietly reinvented herself and become an in demand working actor again. From The NY Times 2016: “I think for me, personally, it was good for my soul and stuff to be M.I.A.,” she said. “In the big picture, I see it as something that opened the door for me to get away. All I’d ever done was act.” Ms. Ryder left L.A. and moved up to San Francisco where she took time to be near family and friends and to reassess.

What I was able to dig up online is that she appears to be pretty low maintenance with regards to skin care and makeup (it helps to be naturally beautiful). Here is what I found: And as for Ryder’s favorite beauty trick, brace yourself: "When I wear lipstick, I pat my lips and use what’s left over on my cheeks," she says. (Of course, we can’t forget to mention her "greatest beauty extravagance," which happens to be as simple as ‘a good night’s sleep’. Not all of Ryder’s routine is effortless, though. While she was clearly born with great genes, she does depend on some of her favorite products to give her some extra Hollywood glam.
