Protect Your Skin
Here are some more ways to protect your skin from the harmful, and aging effects of the sun. Please know that I am all for Vitamin D and the joy that the warm rays bring to all of us! But we must remember that long term exposure to the sun can be damaging to both our skin and our health. Here are a couple of things that I try to do to prevent sun damage:
Wear a hat. I love hats and wear them most days of the year when I am outside with the pooch or running errands. Come on friends be bold! Make a fashion statement as well as being health conscious. Some great hat sites that are also healthy:
Coolibar: A great site that sells great hats for health!
Waleroo Hat Company A Colorado based company that is also registered as a certified B corp which means that they are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community, and the environment.
Solumbra - A hat and clothing company with SPF - check out their cute clothes made with SPF fabric - I am eyeing the kaftan myself!
Invest in a good pair of sunglasses. Your eyes need to be protected from the harsh rays of the sun too! UV exposure can cause the following eye conditions to occur: Macular Degeneration, cataracts, skin cancer and corneal sunburn. It is imperative to invest in a good pair of sunglasses to protect both your eyes and the delicate area around them. You have free reign to be Holly Golightly - the bigger the sunglasses the better the prevention of harmful rays. Always look for glasses with 100% blocking of UVA and UVB rays. Also think about polarized lenses. Polarized lenses reduces glare by putting a chemical on the lenses of your glasses which in turn make the images that you are looking at darker, but also clearer and in turn make your eyes less tired after long bouts of being in the sun.
Foster Grant Sunglasses: A classic, and an American tradition!
Smith Optics Started in 1965 by and orthodontist, this eye company has been an innovator in the industry for the last 50 years
Think about a pair of driving gloves. … WHY DRIVING GLOVES? (From Sundriven an LA Company)
Our primary focus on women’s hands makes a lot of sense. Hands have often been called one of the biggest age giveaway zones of the body. A Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery study discovered that most people could guess a woman’s age range (40’s, 50’s, 60’s) just by looking at her hands. After the face, the hands are the second place people look when determining age. It's also one of three most likely places to get skin cancer.
I like to keep a small spray can of Coola sunscreen in the car and spray the back of my hands and chest and neck when I am driving, when I don’t use my driving gloves.

Scarves protect the delicate skin of the neck and chest…… Take time off your...chest from Health Magazine online:
“I often see women in their early 20’s who have blotchy, freckled chests -a clear sign that their skin has gotten too much sun,” Eventually, the broken vessels and brown splotches will be joined by wrinkles, loose skin, and white spots, which appear when pigment-making cells sustain so much damage that they simply shut down.Simple fixes: The best way to keep your decolletage from deteriorating? Cover it with clothing or sunscreen during the day and a lotion that contains antioxidants like co-enzyme Q10 and vitamin E at night; Some dermatologists prescribe retinol creams. For those of us that are sensitive to retinols how about a scarf?
