Mascara - Ilia vs. Hauschka

Eyelashes are the bomb.

Although the Egyptians were the first known peoples that used mascara, it wasn't until 1830's that the practice of deepening and richening lashes was revived. Victorian ladies experimented with many different cosmetic recipes; rose salves, mascaras and eyeliners were all products that they created and mixed in the comforts of their own dressing rooms. Mixing ashes with elderberry over a hot fire, Victorian ladies created their own mascara concoctions, but the products were never marketed, and thus, never sold. In 1917, Eugene Rimmel created the first packaged cosmetic mascara. Produced from a blend of petroleum and black coal dust, the history of mascara began with a cake mascara that although reformulated, is still found today. - love to know.com

I love mascara. Though I was blessed with long, curly lashes, my eyelashes are on the thin side and thus I am always on a quest for a volumizing mascara to give me a thick lustrous look found in children's eyelashes. I use to love Lancome Definicils mascara and then moved on to Dior Show, but many of the brands test on animals and are also not great for us. So I have been on the hunt for a couple of years to find a GREAT not just good but GREAT alternative. These are my two picks for volume mascaras - let me know yours!

Hauschka volume mascara.jpg

First off I want to discuss Dr. Hauschka’s Volume Mascara retail $28.00. I think this is a great mascara. Now I agree with some of the reviews the mascara formulation is great but the brush is a bit hit or miss. But this mascara is still wonderful! It doesn’t irritate the eyes and doesn’t seem (at least on me) to move during the day. I currently have black but as a redhead will be switching to brown on my next purchase. On the box it lists some nourishing ingredients for the eyes: such as quince seed silk and candelilla wax which gives shine to your lashes and is a natural thickner – maybe that is the secret solution to giving me thicker lashes? Though Dr. Hauschka’s products are not tested on animals, they do at times in their products use: lanolin, honey, beeswax and royal jelly.

Next is both the Allure Best of Beauty Winner 2019 and Glamour Beauty Award winner 2019: Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara retail $28.00 a beautiful mascara that gives lots and lots of volume. This is another great mascara. Great brush, lots of color and tons of definition. My only downside is that currently it only comes in Black. Hey Ilia if anyone out there is listening please start making other colors for us lighter skin toned gals!! As other reviews have stated: no clumping and again this doesn’t seem to travel below my eyes after a day of use. On Ilia’s website it states that: “organic shea butter and fortifying arginine (keratin) to help boost and enhance lash condition”. This is a beautiful product that also 99% natural and cruelty free as stated on their website.

But as always please read the ingredients prior to using both products - since everyone’s eyes are different and what works for some doesn’t work for others.

So there you go: my thoughts on 2 great mascaras….what are your favorite mascaras? Let us know below!
